Hip Hop started out in the heart…

I’ve talked about my infatuation with Lauryn Hill in previous posts but last night put the icing on the cake as far as infatuations go, haha. I never thought I’d get the chance to watch the woman who introduced me to, in my opinion, real music. She set the precedence for the music that I now love. In my eyes she’s the Queen of hip hop. Last night was a memorable performance from her that I had the pleasure of being apart of & I shared that experience to the ones closest to me which made last night more than I could ever ask for. To recap her set I’d just take all of her hits from The Fugees – The Score, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, & sort of an unexpected ode to Bob Marley. All-in-all, a great night with great people listening to great music. “I’ll see you real soon.”- Lauryn Hill, 5.22.2011

Continuing on with dope music…

This morning my boy Fice released his single “In The Kitchen.” Right now, & this might be a biased statement, he is the illest emcee coming out of the North West. Visit FiceMusic.com & support real hip hop.

I’ve said it before, watching one of my homies grow & murder shit is mad inspirational. I always look forward to his new music because I can’t wait to show other people his latest shit & get them as hyped as I did when I first heard it. From ‘Love’ to ‘In The Kitchen’ I’ve always been a proud supporter of his career. With his new found fame from dropping 253 he still hasn’t lost his humbleness which could easily be out shined when you’re on the road to success. Big ups to you my dude, Keep killing shit.

Thank You.

Thank you for all that you’ve done & for all that you continue to do. Thank you for bringing my father into this world & most of all thank you for a family incomparable to any. You are our Queen & forever will be.

You amaze me. Not only because of your willingness to hold on & not because you can cook better than most the people who walk on this earth. You amaze me at your ability to bring everyone together.

I grew up in my grandmothers house. I went to school right around the corner & after school I’d spend my afternoons with her. You would not believe the random people who would come by the house to eat. I swear I’d see different people every time I was there. Her desire to feed people was astonishing. No matter what walk of life you come from…. she’d make sure you ate. She opened her arms to everyone & made sure you felt right at home…. as far as I can remember. That was her specialty, bringing people together. Even at her last moments with us she still brought our family together. We’ve all been so caught up with life that we haven’t got to spend much family time together & what do you know…. she brings us together once again. The past week has been emotionally draining. Not draining from sorrow but the exact opposite. Grandma’s house was rarely quiet, there was so much joy inside those walls as there was this week. Making each other laugh is a Quitugua trait that will never go away.

Like I said, Thank you for bring the family together yet again. You have altered my understanding of strength. Please say Hi to Auntie Jenny & Grandpa. Also, if you see a white boy who approaches you by the name of Chris, give him a hug for us. I love you more than you’ll ever know. Thank you for being you. Esta.
